Digital payments are not a new concept but blockchain has added a new layer to the traditional definition. Panelists discuss the changes that blockchain technology has brought to the concept of digital payments from an efficiency and efficacy perspective. Such technology is also compared and contrasted with more traditional forms of digital payments such as venmo and paypal. Panelists agree that the real opportunity with distributed ledger technology is that it provides the verifiability and programmability that we have never had before; it enables a real-time gross settlement system that is global in nature and brings efficiency gains to the flow of capital and global trade relationships.
